Commonly used precipitation radars show the intensity and spatial distribution of precipitation but not the precipitation type (eg rain or snow).  MeteoGroup has developed a technique to calculate rain, rain/snow (mixed), snow and freezing rain and to display this information in easy to understand map-based animation.
