    • MeteoGroup has developed a state-of-the-art precipitation forecast system for very short term forecasting. Radar images are extrapolated into the future and combined with more general forecasting tools to improve forecasts of precipitation rate and probability.

      The system is monitored 24/7 by our senior forecasters who can take control of the system when necessary, such as in the event of flash flood hazards or other threatening weather conditions.

      The figure below shows an example of the 12 UTC radar image and 12-13 UTC forecasted precipitation amount in mm. Locations just north of the northward moving band of precipitation are forecasted to have some precipitation, mainly 0.1-0.2 mm, but for one station in the central part of the picture it will be 0.8 mm.
