Position title: Strategic Marketing Manager Retail & Insurance
Office location: Berlin (Germany)
What I do: I’m responsible for the development and execution of strategic marketing and communication plans for the Retail & Insurance Business Unit.
My key tasks are: My main role is to define strategic orientations for the business unit and investigate growth opportunities and risks. I work very closely with the sales team, technology and meteorology managers to understand our customer needs and pain points, and initiate and identify new product development and business opportunities. I make sure that we are always one step ahead in anticipating future customer needs and market trends.
A typical Thursday:
Morning: My average day as a Marketing Manager is full of a variety of responsibilities - I get involved in many different areas, which is what I love the most about my job. Thursdays are usually quite busy with meetings. At 9:00 we have our weekly Business Unit meeting where we discuss key sales activities and product development status. This meeting gives us a chance to have all stakeholders in the same room and discuss all the deliverables, business updates and any key outstanding topics for the upcoming weeks. Right after this meeting at 11:00 am, I take some time to draft up my meeting notes. I also use this time to activate any follow up correspondence.
Afternoon: At 2:00 pm I usually have a separate meeting with our Business Unit Director and/or Sales Director in order to make sure we are aligned regarding next steps and up-to-date on specific marketing campaigns or sales activities. After this meeting, I always block a few hours to focus on my specific on-going projects and respond to emails.
Evening: I speak 3 languages fluently but since I moved to Berlin I have started a new challenge: learning German. So my Thursdays end with German classes from 6.30 to 8.00pm. After such a long day I usually do not have time to cook but as I’m a big foodie, I use this opportunity to have dinner at one of my favourite restaurants in Berlin and catch up with my friends.
If I could give you one piece of advice, it would be to focus on your prioritisation and communication skills. I work on multiple projects with very tight deadlines, involving multiple stakeholders, so it's important to manage your time efficiently and always communicate with the entire team to make sure everyone is on the same page.
