Position title: Back Office Engineer
Office location: Wageningen (Netherlands)
What I do: At MeteoGroup we (the BackOffice Team) are responsible for all the IT related requests submitted from our 17 locations around the world.
My key tasks are: I (with the other members from the team) work on requests and incidents submitted by colleagues throughout the entire company. We’re responsible for several services (Active Directory, Exchange etc.) and all workplaces and equipment.
A typical Friday:
Morning: On Friday I arrive at the office at 07:00. I start my day by reading my emails and checking the latest updates on our JIRA ticketing system. At 07:30 I start to work on these tickets, which is the main task of my day. Every Tuesday and Friday we have a BackOffice meeting via video conference. We discuss the week ahead and any issues other team members may have – a problem shared is a problem solved!
Afternoon: After lunch I continue to work on assigned tickets and support our “customers” as needed. When able I also try to work on my objectives and projects (home working platform, improve Wi-Fi in the office(s), etc.). My working day finished at 15:30 when I head home.
Evening: After dinner I go to the gym and then have friends over, a good start to the weekend.
If I could give you one piece of advice, it would be to learn from the people around you to achieve the greatest things in life.
