Reduce voyage costs while ensuring safety with real-time onboard route optimization.
Route-planning and optimization involves juggling safety, efficiency, navigation, costs, port rotation, ETAs, speed ranges and additional constraints, such as trim and seakeeping. For ship captains, this is a complex challenge that requires the aid of a decision-supporting tool to give them confidence in their decisions and support either and execution. MeteoGroup developed SPOS9 (Ship Performance Optimization System) to address these challenges.
- Save fuel and time
- Increase ship safety
- Unburden Captains
Weather forecast input
Receive input up to four times a day, via e-mail or http download. Weather maps can be displayed on screen or printed. Over 20 input parameters for voyage optimization, salinity for ballasting, humidity and dew point for cargo ventilation.
Route planning and adjustment
Create route options based on time, cost or fuel constraints, either with or without a given ETA. Use MeteoGroup Route network to plan port-to-port routes, including navigational constraints and port approaches. Variable speed routing functionality ensures ships can avoid severe weather.
Conditional parameters input
Specify and update vessel and voyage data during transit. Use the MeteoGroup Ship Profile Library, developed with MARIN, which contains advanced algorithms for the resistance impact of wind and waves on specific vessel types
Share travel updates with configurable reporting options. Allroutes, communications and performance indicators are available for onshore stakeholders via the FleetGuard web platform. Integration with FleetGuard and RouteGuard ensures a shared view across fleets.
Sea Keeping (add-on)
Protect motion-sensitive ships and cargoes.
Trim Advice (add-on)
Optimize trim using ship characteristics, voyage loading conditions and waves.
MeteoGroup helps our Masters to safely navigate the globe with minimal fuel consumption and emissions, by calculating and recalculating optimum routes and anticipating oncoming weather and sea conditions.

I have been using MeteoGroup since 2009 on board the vessels I have sailed. It really had impact in more accurate passage planning, engine/power utilization and fuel saving.

Weather Routing – Reducing Emissions by Better Planning
MeteoGroup is some kind of all-seeing eye when it comes to weather. and that's very useful for the shipping sector, as a captain wants to know beforehand if he might be sailing into a storm.
The SPOS9 Seakeeping module is designed to protect your motion-sensitive ships and cargoes. The new SPOS9 release is available with this optional plug-in module for even better performance and increased safety of your fleet.
